iOS 7 installation: iTunes does not recognize iPhone - what to do?
If iTunes does not recognize your iPhone when installing iOS 7, there is not necessarily a defect. We will show you what you can do in this case.
Update iTunes to the latest version before installing iOS 7
To install iOS 7 through iTunes, you must have the latest version of iTunes (11.1). To check whether you have the latest version installed or to update iTunes if necessary, proceed as follows:
- Click on the question mark symbol in the top left of the menu bar (far right in the menu bar).
- Select "Check for updates" from the drop-down menu.
- iTunes will tell you if you have the latest version installed. If this is not the case, iTunes offers you to install an update.
Check USB cable
The USB cable may be faulty due to dirt or a defect. Check the cable for dirt on the contacts and clean it if necessary. If you have another USB cable at hand, replace it to rule out a defect.
Is Apple Mobile Device Support installed?
To connect to iOS devices, Apple Mobile Device Support must be installed. Usually the program is installed with iTunes. To check whether the program is available, proceed as follows:
- Click "Start" (start icon), then "Control Panel".
- Under "Programs" select the item "Uninstall Programs".
- Here you will find an alphabetical list with all installed programs and services. Check if "Apple Mobile Device Support" is installed.
- If Apple Mobile Device Support is not installed, you should completely remove and reinstall iTunes. Instructions can be found here.
- If Apple Mobile Device Support is still not installed after reinstalling iTunes, follow the steps in this article.
4. Restart Apple Mobile Device Support
If Apple Mobile Device Support is installed, you can also try restarting to fix the problem. Instructions can be found here.
