iOS 7: use Lightning cable without certification - how does it work?
Since iOS 7, many users have received the message "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone". This error occurs when you try to charge your Apple device using a non-original Lightning cable. We show you how it works in this practical tip.
Charge Apple devices on iOS 7 with Lightning cable without certification
The reason for the error message is a chip in the connection of the Lightning cable. For security reasons, Apple only wants to allow its own charging cables. Third parties build the chips or leave them out altogether. The device recognizes this and refuses to charge it. To fix the problem:
- Plug the Lightning cable into your iOS device and click away any warnings.
- Unlock iPhone and confirm all warnings again.
- Click the on / off switch at the top of your device so that the device locks again.
- Then disconnect the cable and plug it back in immediately.
- Now click away all warnings again, should the device be charged as usual. Unfortunately, you have to repeat this process with each new charging process.
If your iPad does not charge, there are also special reasons that we will explain to you in this practical tip.
