iOS 8: Extend battery life
Even under iOS 8, battery is usually scarce. We show you how to extend the battery life of your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
iOS 8: Disable automatic app updates
iOS 8 can automatically download the updates for your apps without being asked. Several updates make the percentage of your battery disappear quickly.
- Open the "Settings" app and select the "iTunes & App Store" category below.
- Under the "Automatic downloads" category you will find the "Updates" option. You can deactivate this.
iOS 8: Switch off AirDrop & save battery
The AirDrop function helps to exchange data between different iOS devices. However, the function sucks your battery empty.
- Place your finger on the bottom of the display and pull it up. The control center then opens.
- Tap "AirDrop" below and select the "Off" option.
iOS 8: Deactivate parallax effect for longer battery life
When you move your iPhone, the background moves as well. While this is a nice feature, it also wastes battery unnecessarily.
- Open the "Settings" app and select the "General" category.
- Under "Accessibility" you will find the item "Reduce movement".
- Deactivate the function of the same name here.
- Note: For users of the iPhone 4S, another setting in the accessibility may be worthwhile. Under the item "Increase contrast" you will find the option "Reduce transparency".
iOS 8: Customize Spotlight Search
You can search your entire iOS device using Spotlight Search. For example, if you write a new note, this change is immediately documented for the Spotlight search. This also consumes electricity unnecessarily if you do not use the search.
- In the "Settings" app, open the "Spotlight search" under the "General" category.
- Deactivate all categories that your iPhone should not monitor here. If you do not use the search at all, you can deselect all items.
