iOS 9.1 Beta Downgrade: How to get iOS 9 back
If you no longer want to use the public beta of iOS 9.1, you can downgrade to iOS 9. We'll show you how it works without data loss.
Downgrade from iOS 9.1 Beta to iOS 9: Step 1: Download iOS 9
To restore the old iOS 9 version, you have to download it first.
- First, download iOS 9 to your computer. Since iOS 9 is around 2 GB in size, the download may take a little longer depending on the speed.
- In the following CHIP article you will find the right version of iOS 9 for every iPhone, iPad and iPod model.
- These are the original Apple IPSW files. When downloading, you will be automatically redirected to Apple.
Step 2: prepare iPhone for downgrade to iOS 9
- Take your iOS device at hand and open the "Settings" there. Under "iCloud" you will find "Find my iPhone" below. Deactivate the function of the same name here.
- Switch back to the settings and select the "General" category. Scroll down and select the profile for the iOS 9.1 beta under "Profiles". Then tap "Delete Profile".
- Tip: Normally, no data is deleted from the iPhone during this downgrade. However, for security reasons, we recommend that you first create a backup for the iPhone.
Step 3: downgrade from iOS 9.1 beta to iOS 9
- Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the computer with a USB cable and start iTunes.
- Select the iOS device above and look for the "Check for updates" button there.
- Hold the "Alt" key on the Mac or the "Shift" key on Windows and click the button with the mouse.
- Now select the previously downloaded IPSW file and confirm the process.
- Note: Your iOS device will now restart a few times. In the end, iOS 9.0 should be installed and your data should still be available.
