You do not have to be an IT professional to determine your own or a third-party IP address. We show you here how you can either find out your own IP address or that of a third-party server.
How do I find out my IP address?
From Windows 8 you can easily find out your own IP yourself.
- First press [Win] + [R] at the same time to open the "Run" window.
- Enter "cmd" here and confirm with "OK".
- The command center (CMD) opens. Now enter "ipconfig" in CMD.
- You can find your IP at the entry "IPv4 address".
Find out the foreign IP address
Simply research the IP of a third-party computer that you can reach via the Internet in the Windows command prompt.
- To do this, enter "cmd" in the search bar of the start menu and confirm with [Enter]. Alternatively, you can also open CMD as described above.
- Type "ping example.com" into the console. Replace "example.com" with the address whose IP you want to know and press [Enter].
- You can now read the foreign IP address in several places in the results (see screenshot).
Online Tools: Find out the IP address quickly online
You can also find out your own IP online using various tools.
- WhatIsMyIP.com shows you your IPv4 and IPv6 address.
- You will also find the location of the Internet hub to which you are connected.
