You can easily resolve an IP address conflict in Windows 7. You can find out how to do this in this practical tip.
How to resolve the address conflict in Windows 7
An IP address conflict occurs when several computers on a network use the same IP address. However, you can usually solve it quickly:
- Open the Control Panel and go to the "Network and Sharing Center".
- Click here on your connection (LAN or WLAN) and then "Properties". Make sure that the "Show icon when connected in notification area" check box is set.
- Then close the properties and click on "Details" under "Transfer rate". Make a note of the numbers "IP address" (eg 192.168.2.100), "Standard gateway and DNS server". These are required for the further process.
- On your other computer, switch back to the "Network and Sharing Center" and open the "Properties" of your connection (as already described above).
- Select the "Internet Protocol Version 4" here and open the "Properties". Enter the numbers you noted in "Use the following IP address", but only the first three combinations of numbers - for example, 192.168.2.XX. For XX, choose a different number than the one you use on other computers - for example 192.168.2.118.
- Finally enter the data for the gateway and the DNS server - these should remain the same.
- Restart your network connection.
