Charging the iPad battery on the PC - is that possible?
An iPhone can be charged at the USB port of the PC without problems, but charging is more difficult with the iPad battery. The display reports "Does not load" or loading only works very slowly (if at all). We show you the background and solutions.
The reason for this is the limited current that the USB connection provides. While the charger of the iPad itself works with 2 amperes (A), a USB 2.0 delivers a maximum of 500 milliamps (mA) - and also not always stable. You can optimize this a little with a few measures:
- If the PC has USB 3.0, connect the iPad to such an interface because it supplies up to 900 mA of current. Despite the message "Does not charge", the device is slowly charged even on USB 2.0 ports, provided that there is still some power left, minus the direct consumption. Charging therefore works a little better when the iPad is switched off.
- Finally, you can try the free tool Asus Ai Charger to provide higher performance via USB and thus speed up the charging process. The tool is not limited to Asus hardware. It is available for download at Asus.de.
- The PC must be restarted after it has been installed. With our test computer, the charging actually worked with the charging indicator on the iPad.
