The iPad is a useful companion - as long as the battery plays along. We'll show you how to increase battery life by making a few simple settings.
1. Increase the battery life of the iPad through the display brightness
The display is one of the main sources of power consumption for the iPad. It is therefore worth keeping the brightness a little lower.
- You can control the brightness using the quick settings (swipe gesture from the bottom of the screen upwards) with a slider.
- You can also find this under "Settings"> "Backgrounds & Brightness", or you activate the "Auto Brightness" function.
2. Dynamic background images drain the iPad battery life
Under "Settings"> "Backgrounds & Brightness"> "Select New Background" you can choose between dynamic backgrounds and static single images. The differences:
- Dynamic backgrounds are changing and moving.
- Static single images do not move and save your electricity consumption.
3. Reduce the parallax effect and increase your battery life
If you hold your iPad in your hand and tilt it back and forth a little, you will notice a movement on the display. This is nice to look at, but costs valuable electricity.
- Reduce this movement in the "Settings".
- Call the "Accessibility" there under "General".
- Activate the "Reduce motion" option by setting the slider to "On".
4. Set up the automatic lock of the iPad display
- If you are not using your iPad, there are hardly any reasons why the display must be continuously active.
- Under "Settings"> "General"> "Automatic lock" you can select the length of time after which the display should switch off after inactivity.
- Select 2 minutes here and save your battery.
5. Disable unnecessary location services and increase battery life
Many apps query your location in the background. If this does not result in a direct benefit for you, you can safely prevent this.
- Under "Settings"> "Data protection"> "Location services" you can view all apps that access the location services and deactivate them if necessary.
- At the bottom of the list is the "System Services" item, which is also worth a look.
6. Disable automatic downloads
ITunes offers you the option of automatically loading music or app purchases made on other devices onto your iPad. This function is quite practical, but not battery-saving.
- Go to "Automatic Downloads" under "Settings"> "iTunes & App Store".
- Deactivate all switches that you do not use here.
7. Disable background update of apps
The background update of apps is also practical, but unfortunately a power guzzler. Apps update content in the background or access location services and use this computing power to drain your battery.
- Call up the "Settings".
- Under "General"> "Background update" you can deactivate this function for individual apps.
8. Optimize the settings of the notifications on the iPad
Automatic notifications cause your display to activate briefly with every notification. If you get a lot of notifications, your battery life will also suffer.
- Open the "Settings" of your iPad and switch to the "Notifications" tab.
- Here you can change the settings for individual apps in the "Show" section and adapt them to your needs.
- Basically, everything that gives you no advantage with a notification on your display should be deactivated.
9. Optimize the settings for the push services on the iPad
Similar to the notifications, the same applies to the push services for mail, contacts or calendars. If the push function is activated, there is a permanently active connection between your iPad and the respective server.
- You can set the push function individually under "Settings"> "Mail, Contacts, Calendar".
- You can either deactivate the notifications in principle, activate only for certain services, define time intervals for automatic polling, or activate only a manual data comparison.
- Manual adjustment is the most energy-saving option.
10. Actively use the control center on the iPad to increase the battery life
Open the control center with a swipe from the bottom of the display. Here you can quickly and easily activate and deactivate data transfer services as required.

- If you do not want immediate notifications overnight, activate the "Do not disturb" function.
- If you do not currently need an internet connection, switch off the WLAN.
- Use your iPad with a SIM card for mobile data use and you are on the go (this often means changing signal strengths), relieve your battery and go into flight mode.
If your iPad slows down over time, we will show you how to get more speed out of the iPad.
