iPad: Manage photos - the best tips
In this guide, we'll share the best tips to help you manage photos on your iPad.
Manage photos properly on iPad
Managing photos on the iPad seems simple at first, but has some pitfalls. Be it the album "Recordings", copying between iPad and PC or the photo stream. We give you the most important tips so that you can manage your photos on the iPad without complications.
- All photos you take with your iPad first end up in the "Recordings" album. Photos and images from emails or websites that you save also end up in this album.
- Although you can organize photos from recordings in your own albums, you must be aware that the photos are not copied to these albums. Your iPad only stores a link to the original file. The photo remains saved under "Recordings".
- While you need iTunes to transfer photos to iPad, iTunes doesn't matter the other way. So if you want to transfer photos from your iPad to your PC, you don't need iTunes.
- The iPad is recognized by the PC as a camera, which gives you access to all photos and videos in the "Recordings" album. You can therefore copy photos and videos to any PC and are not dependent on the PC with which you synchronize your iPad as with iTunes.
- While your iPad is displayed as a drive on Windows PCs and you can easily access the content with Explorer, OSX uses the iPhoto program by default.
- The photo stream promises that you can automatically exchange photos and videos between multiple iOS devices. But if you don't pay attention to some important details, unpleasant surprises can quickly arise.
- So only 1, 000 photos are always saved in the photo stream. Photos older than 30 days will be deleted. Although this is the actual guideline, it can often happen that you find much older photos in your photo stream.
- Also note that photos in the photo stream and recordings are saved twice. This eats a lot of storage space.
- After all, the photo stream is so intelligent that photos are downloaded to the individual devices in a compressed, optimal size.
- You should also be careful when deleting a photo from the photo stream. The photo also disappears on all other devices.
- It is best to copy your photos from the iPad regularly and then delete them. You can copy the photos you want to have on the iPad over iTunes as your own album.
