Forgot iPad password - what to do?
Forgetting your iPad's password is not a broken leg. You only need to reset your iPad to its factory settings. Don't worry, your data will not be lost after the reset. You can simply create a backup via iTunes beforehand. With this practical tip, we will explain how you can get your data back as quickly as possible.
Hard reset your iPad
If you reset your iPad, it may take some time, but you will get all the data and apps back intact.
- First, connect your iPad to iTunes. Now click on your iPad name and then in the Backups section on "Back up now" (or "Back Up now" in the screenshot).
- Once the backup is complete, you can start resetting your iPad. Simply click on "Restore iPad". If you are asked again whether you want to back up your iPad, you can skip this step, since you already created the backup in step 1.
- Then you will be asked again if you really want to restore your iPad. Now simply select "restore" here.
- The iPad now restarts several times and deletes all data while the new firmware is being installed. Please do not disconnect the iPad from the PC while the reset is in progress.
- Once the restore is complete, you can set up your iPad again and then import your backup.
- This works very simply by simply selecting "Restore backup" in the same place as in step 2 (cf. "Restore Backup" in the screenshot). After this step is complete, you have your device completely as before - with the difference that the code lock is removed.
The test was carried out under Windows 7 with iTunes 11. If your iPad runs too slowly, we will show you here how you can access the original performance again. You can find detailed instructions for a backup here.
