iPad lost - you can do that
Like all Apple devices, the iPad has a "Find my iPad" function. If this was activated when you lost your device, you can remotely locate, lock and erase your data. But even if you have not used this feature, you can still take action against abuse.
iPad lost - "Find my iPad"
If "Find my iPad" is activated on your tablet, you have a good chance of finding it again:
- Log in to a PC at iCloud.com/find with your Apple ID and select your iPad from the device list above. When your iPad is switched on and online, the position is shown on a map.
- In the top right, you can click on "Lost Mode" to lock your iPhone with a code and send a message to the lock screen. So you can ask a finder to call you.
- If your iPad is not found, you should delete the data on it. To do this, click on "Delete iPad". However, please note that the device can no longer be located afterwards.
- Report the loss to the police. You will probably need the device serial number, which you can find on the packaging or in the Apple support profile.
- To be on the safe side, change the passwords that you saved in Safari for autofill and the password of your Apple ID.
- If your iPad has a SIM card, block it from your network operator.
iPad lost - "Find my iPad" not activated
If you have not activated the search function on the iPad, you cannot locate the device. Nevertheless, you can protect your data:
- To prevent unauthorized persons from using Apple services such as iCloud or the store on your iPad, change the password of your Apple ID.
- You should also change the passwords of other accounts that you used on the iPad.
- If your iPad has a SIM card, block it from your network operator.
- Report the loss to the police. You can find the serial number on the packaging or in your Apple support profile.
