iPhone 11 (Pro): Adjust the wide angle later - how it works

With iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, you have the option of taking wide-angle shots of an image or video even though you have not activated wide-angle mode at all. We will show you how to make the wide-angle format visible afterwards.
iPhone 11: Activate wide-angle format later
The eleventh generation iPhone models are the first of their kind with an ultra wide-angle lens. The iPhone 11 now comes with two camera lenses, instead of the previous one like the iPhone XR, and the Pro models now even feature a triple camera system. With the help of the zoom control in the camera app, wide-angle shots can be taken with the iPhone 11 models.
Every now and then, however, a photo has to be taken quickly. It is easy to forget to activate the wide-angle mode and in retrospect is annoyed that content on the shot was cut off at the edge.
Exactly for this purpose, Apple integrates a function on the eleventh generation iPhones that saves you this annoyance: Instead of just a single picture, the smartphone takes a picture with all three lenses when it is triggered and saves it with a hidden image. So if you later notice that a wide-angle shot would have made more sense, you can still produce it after saving the image.
But be careful : The hidden wide-angle version of the image is only saved for 30 days after the photo was taken. If you don't want the wide-angle shot by then, the iPhone will automatically delete it.
Call up wide-angle shots afterwards: Here's how
Apple advertises the function of subsequently being able to access the wide-angle version of a picture very large. Before this works, this feature must be activated once in the system settings before the picture is taken. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Open the system settings on your iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max.
- Scroll down and navigate to the Camera submenu.
- Activate the option Take photos outside the frame so that your iPhone always takes photos with the wide-angle lens.
iPhone: Enable wide angle for videos
A little tip: The video recording option outside the frame is located directly below. If you also activate the switch here, not only photos but also videos are taken simultaneously with the wide-angle lens and can be called up afterwards.
But be careful: if you take a lot of photos and shoot videos and your iPhone has a small storage capacity (e.g. 64 gigabytes for the iPhone 11), the storage space on your iPhone fills up very quickly.
This is how you get the wide-angle shots afterwards
If you have activated the function once, all your photos and videos will now be taken with the wide-angle lens in addition to the normal lens. You can now easily access these recordings via the Photos app. After taking a picture or video, do the following to access the wide-angle version of the shot:
- Open the photo or video from which you want to view the wide-angle version
- Click the button below that opens image and video editing
- Select the "Crop and Rotate" editing option and easily zoom out your image or video with two fingers
Save wide-angle shot
If you now simply save the respective image or video again, the image section to be seen is now significantly larger: You have successfully produced the wide-angle version of an image or video, although you originally took the picture with the conventional camera lens.
