In this practical tip, we explain in 5 steps how to set up your new iPhone 5s.
Step 1 of the iPhone 5s setup: insert the SIM card and charge the battery
- After unpacking, insert the SIM card into the slot provided on your iPhone 5s.
- You can open it with the help of the small needle that comes in the package of your Apple mobile phone: insert the needle into the opening, push it slightly to the side, so that the needle is pulled upwards. Now insert the nano SIM.
- Connect your iPhone to the mains with the included power cord to finish charging the battery.
- Now switch on the iPhone 5s using the on / off button (on the top of the device).
Step 2: set language and unlock iPhone 5s
- You will be greeted with "Hello" in different languages. Swipe right to configure.
- Unlock the SIM card with the PIN that should be included with your mobile phone contract. Click "Ok" above.
- Then select "German". The language setting follows, wait a moment and then select "Germany".
Step 3: network and configuration of the 5s
- Now you can see the WLAN networks in your area. Click your network name and enter your network password. Confirm. Now your iPhone 5s will be activated.
- The setting of the local services follows. If you want apps to know your approximate location, activate the service.
- The next step for you is the type of iPhone configuration. You can choose between "Configure as new iPhone", "Restore from iCloud backup" or "Restore from iTunes backup". If you've never owned an iPhone before, go for the first option. If you already own an Apple device, you can use your iCloud backup to import all old apps to your new iPhone, for example. You can find out more about backup in this practical tip.
- In both cases, you can enter your Apple ID and log in using it. If you do not yet have an Apple ID, click on the "Configure as new iPhone" option and click on "Create a free Apple ID" to log in to Apple.
- Log in using your Apple ID, for example your contacts will also be synchronized to your new iPhone.
- In the next step you will see the terms of use. For archive reasons you can have them sent to you by email (via "Send by email), otherwise click here on" Accept "->" Accept ".
Step 4: set up Apple services
- Now you decide whether you want to use iCloud. iCloud is recommended because you have automatic and synchronized access to, for example, photos, contacts or your calendar on all your devices.
- Use "Find my iPhone" to find your iPhone on Cloudfind if you lose it. However, your location services will be activated anyway.
- Next, you can set up Touch ID to shop in the Apple store instead of a code or your Apple ID. However, the option is not yet completely secure. The next step is to generate the Touch ID by pressing your finger on the Home button.
- Now you can enter your iPhone code. If you have used the Touch ID option, you will then be asked whether you want to use it for purchases. You can also choose to configure later.
- Next, Siri is introduced to you. Siri is the voice assistant of the iPhone 5s, which you can activate via the home button during operation. You can ask questions of the virtual personality and it will help you to complete tasks.
- The penultimate question relates to the "diagnosis" that you are using to help Apple improve its products. The last thing you can do is register with Apple.
- Then the welcome screen appears, click on "Let's go" - and you are directly in the iOS 7 home menu.
Step 5: install apps
Now you can download other useful tools and applications on your iPhone in addition to the standard Apple apps.
