Step 1: Open iPhone 6 for display replacement
- Turn off your iPhone 6 completely and remove the two screws at the bottom of the device next to the Lightning connector.
- Attach the suction cup just above the home button and pull it up with a little pressure.
- Slide the triangular pick slightly into the gap above the Lightning connector and gently pry up the display.
- Also run the pick along the left and right sides. Then the display is released.
- Now flip up the display. However, do not tilt it backwards to protect the contacts.
- Tip: If the display has jumped over the home button, there may be problems with the suction cup. In this case, simply cover the display with adhesive tape to hold the surface together.
Step 2: remove the display from the iPhone 6
- At the top right of the iPhone you can see the connection between the housing and the display. A silver plate is mounted above it.
- Loosen all five screws on the plate. These are different screws. Note exactly which screw belongs in which place. A little sketch can help.
- Now take the elongated plastic tool at hand and use it to loosen the contacts between the display and the housing.
- In total there are four flat cables. Carefully pry up the cables. Start with the bottom cable and work your way up.
- Connect the new display to the iPhone and switch on the device. If you can move apps and adjust the brightness, the display is intact. Then switch the device off again.
Step 3: replace the iPhone 6 display
Much of the hardware is still on the old display. Home button, camera and some connections are transferred from the old display to the new display.
- At the top of the old display you will find a silver metal cover. Remove all three screws here.
- If you fold up the front camera, you can remove the earpiece underneath.
- The camera is attached to a larger complex that is glued to the left and right of the display. Use a plastic tool to carefully remove these two adhesive dots.
- Now remove the cover at the bottom of the home button and disconnect the connection from the home button to the display on the left.
- If you also loosen the adhesive connection here, you can simply push out the home button from below.
- Now remove all seven screws from the large cover of the display and remove them. Before that, however, you still have to release a contact in the top left above the home button.
- Now take the new display at hand and carry out the last 6 steps backwards.
- Then connect the complete new display with all four cables to the housing of the iPhone 6.
