Set up iPhone 6 - the most important startup settings
Once you have completed the setup of the iPhone 6, you should first set it up correctly. We'll show you how it's done.
Set up iPhone 6: the most important settings
You can find all the necessary configurations in the "Settings" app. The following settings belong to the categories above.
- Mobile network: If you are not yet able to access the Internet while on the move, you must enter the appropriate access data here under the "Mobile data network". Below you can block all apps that should not burden your data volume. It is advisable to block the AppStore here so that you don't accidentally update your apps on the mobile network.
- Touch ID: If you have not yet secured your iPhone 6 with Touch ID, you should do so now. Alternatively, you can choose a code or password to secure your smartphone.
- Data protection: Under "Location services" you should deactivate all apps in which the location services are not required. This not only protects your privacy, but also protects the iPhone battery.
- iCloud: To find your iPhone in the event of loss, activate the "Find my iPhone" option here. Also disable all categories that you do not need in the iCloud backup. For example, your emails are probably already stored by the provider and do not have to use your iCloud storage.
- Messages: If your friends also have an iPhone, iPad or iPod, you should activate iMessage. This means that SMS messages are sent free of charge over the Internet.
- Safari: To ensure that you surf the net safely, activate the "Block pop-ups" and "No tracking" options here.
iPhone 6: Settings under the "General" category
The following settings can all be found in the "General" category.
- Software update: To benefit from the latest features and security updates, you should occasionally drop by in this category. If an update is available, download and install it.
- Background updates: Not every app should and must work in the background. All apps that should send you messages, however, must remain activated.
- Automatic lock: With your iPhone unlocked, you will thank the automatic lock one day. This switches the screen off automatically after the selected time when it is not in use.
