iPhone 6: Change Home Button - Here's how
If the home button of your iPhone 6 is no longer working properly, you can simply change the component yourself. In this practical tip, we will show you how to do it.
iPhone 6: Change Home Button - Tool
- You only need a new home button cable to change the home button. The part of the home button that is visible from the outside is taken over during the repair.
- You also need the right tool for repairs. The following repair set contains all the necessary tools. At Amazon you will find numerous other tool sets for little money.
- Note: For security reasons, Touch-ID is no longer available after changing the home button.
Step 1: Open iPhone 6 for home button change
Tip: You have to remove several screws from the iPhone for the exchange. It is best to make a small sketch so that each screw comes back to its correct place at the end.
- Switch the iPhone 6 off completely and heat the edge of the display with a hair dryer. The cell phone should then only be warm and not hot.
- Remove the two screws at the bottom of the power connector and place the suction cup just above the home button.
- Place the triangular plastic pick between the power connector and the home button and pull the suction cup with the display up a little.
- As soon as the opening is large enough, slide the pick between the display and the housing. Make sure that you only push the pick in as far as necessary (see picture).
- If you carefully move the pick along the edge, you can fold up the display. However, do not open it further than 90 degrees as the display is still connected to a cable at the top.
Step 2: switch home button from iPhone 6
- On the top right you will find a silver cover in the iPhone 6. Remove all five screws that hold the plate in place.
- Take a plastic tool and carefully pry up the four contacts underneath.
- At the bottom of the home button, remove the two screws and remove the cover.
- Fold the cable up next to the home button and release the cable underneath.
- Now you can push the home button in and out from the outside.
- Insert all required components from the old one into the new cable of the home button.
- At the end, simply perform all of the previous steps in reverse order. The repair is now complete.
