iPhone 6 Plus vs Galaxy Note 4 - the comparison
With the launch of the iPhone 6 Plus, Apple is suddenly poaching in phablet areas - the home of the Galaxy Note 4. We compare the two top models.
iPhone 6 Plus vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 4: design and hardware
- Design & workmanship: Apple and Samsung come closer together - both devices are partly made of metal. While Apple uses an aluminum unibody, Samsung uses a metal frame and a soft synthetic leather back. Although the Galaxy Note 4 has the larger display, the iPhone 6 Plus is around 5 millimeters longer, but a few millimeters narrower and thinner.
- Display: AMOLED vs. Retina - the iPhone 6 Plus probably comes with the usual excellent Full-HD LCD screen with a 5.5-inch diagonal, which results in 400 ppi. Samsung goes one step further and installs a Quad HD AMOLED display with a 5.7 inch diagonal and 515 ppi.
- Processor: Internally, both have upgraded. Apple installs a new dual-core A8 processor with extra co-processors, 64-bit design and 1.4 GHz clocking. Samsung uses a Quadcore Snapdragon 805 with 2.7 GHz. In addition, the Note 4 has 3 GB of RAM and the iPhone has unconfirmed 1 GB.
- Camera: Apple uses 8 and Samsung 16 megapixels, but the calculation is not that simple. Both the iPhone 6 Plus and the Galaxy Note 4 have optical image stabilizers built into the cameras. You can film with the iPhone at up to 240 fps and get even more true-to-color night shots thanks to the Truetone LED flash.
- Battery: Large display, large battery: The Galaxy Note 4 comes with a 3, 220 mAh battery, the iPhone is rumored to have a battery with 2, 915 mAh.
- Special functions: Both devices have a fingerprint scanner, in addition there is a pulse monitor on the Galaxy Note 4. In the meantime, both devices have both a barometer and NFC on board, for example for wireless payments. The "note" in the name of the Galaxy smartphone comes from the integrated stylus, which greatly simplifies operation and handwritten writing on the large display.
software
- Operating system: The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is delivered with the latest Android 4.4.4, above which is the in-house TouchWiz interface, which is simpler in the latest versions and appeals more. Apple's iOS version 8 only comes with the market launch of the devices and, despite the weaker hardware, offers the usual smooth performance and simple user guidance.
- Tablet functions: What is new at Apple is that certain apps are shown on the large display like on the iPad tablets - this makes working easier. Samsung even goes so far that two apps can be displayed side by side on the Note 4.
- Features: With their numerous sensors, both devices increasingly rely on fitness tracking, especially in combination with wearables such as the new Apple Watch or the Android Wear watches. At Samsung, the stylus called "S-Pen" is so well integrated that it brings essential functions. Apple, on the other hand, can score with the fact that the Apple Pay payment system will start with the new iPhones.
Availability and price
- Price: At the market launch, both devices will be some of the most expensive on the market. The iPhone 6 Plus is then available with 16, 64 or 128 GB of storage space for 799, 899 and 999 euros. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 comes with 32 GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot for € 699.
- Availability: The iPhone can be pre-ordered, the Galaxy Note 4 will be available in stores in October.
