iPhone 6S: Change display - repair instructions
If the display has been damaged by your iPhone 6S, you can change it yourself at any time. Together with the repair experts from iDoc show you step by step how to do this.
Preparation: Tool and new display for the iPhone 6S
- To replace the display, you need both a new display and the right tool. The tool includes two special screwdrivers, a suction cup and a plastic plectrum.
- The display and the tool are available from iDoc. Depending on the model, choose one of the following repair kits: iPhone 6S black, iPhone 6S white, iPhone 6S Plus black, iPhone 6S Plus white.
- You will also need a hot air dryer or an ordinary hair dryer. The display is glued and can only be easily removed by heat.
Step 1: Open the iPhone 6S display
- Turn off the iPhone 6S completely. Otherwise there may be a short circuit in the device.
- Now heat the edges of the smartphone with a hairdryer or hot air dryer. The iPhone 6S should only be warm, not hot. Keep enough distance to avoid damage.
- Remove the two screws at the bottom of the power connection, place the suction cup just above the home button and take the plastic plectron in hand.
- Slide the plectrum under the home button between the display and the housing. To do this, pull the suction cup with slight pressure.
- Now pull the plectron along the edge of the smartphone until the display detaches. Insert the plectron into the device only a few millimeters.
- If the display has loosened at all points, you can open it upwards. There it is still connected with a cable.
- In order not to damage the contacts, you should open the display at a maximum of 90 degrees. This is particularly important for the installation of the new display so that the cables are not overstretched.
- Tip: If the display is splintered, the suction cup cannot be attached correctly in some cases. Simply stick the affected area over the home button with adhesive tape.
Step 2: remove the display from the iPhone 6S
Note: In the following steps, you need to remove several different screws from iPhone. Place this on the supplied magnetic plate or make a small sketch yourself. Sorting is extremely important because screws of the same type are sometimes of different lengths.
- Before you start with the removal, you should also disconnect the battery contacts. This ensures that the cell phone does not switch on accidentally and that there is a short circuit. To do this, remove the two screws on the battery connector and remove the cover. You can then carefully remove the plug by lifting it up with a fingernail or a thin screwdriver.
- On the top right of the iPhone 6S you will find a metal plate. Remove all four screws and remove the cover.
- There are three flat cables under the cover. Carefully pry it up with a plastic tool.
- Remove the old display and connect the new display to the iPhone. Simply place the display on the housing.
- Turn on the iPhone and test whether the display really works. If all functions are available, you can switch off the iPhone 6S again.
- Now remove the new display. In the last steps you have to take over some components from the old display.
Step 3: change the display of the iPhone 6S

- The large plate behind the display is connected with a total of 8 screws. Loosen all screws and remove the plate.
- There is also a cover with two screws above the home button. Then disconnect the cable connection and remove the home button.
- Now all parts are inserted backwards into the new display. Remove all adhesive residue and apply the new adhesive frame.
