iPhone 6s: front camera does not work - so replace it
If the front camera of your iPhone 6s is defective, you can change the component yourself or have it replaced by a professional. However, professional repairs are quite expensive. With our instructions, you can easily replace the front camera yourself.
Change iPhone 6s front camera: Required tool
Repairing it yourself is pretty easy. Allow around 30 minutes for this. You can see which tools you need for this here:
- Pentalob PL1 screwdriver
- Philips PH00 screwdriver
- suction cup
- Hard plastic plectrum
- ESD tweezers
- steel spatula
- spudger
- heat gun
- new front camera including sensor cable set
Replace iPhone 6s front camera
- Switch off the device before starting repairs to avoid short circuits.
- Remove the two pentalob screws on the left and right of the charging socket. This is the only way to remove the display later.
- Use the hot air dryer to open and lift the display to loosen the adhesive on the edge of the display. The glue is there to protect the iPhone from moisture.
- Take the suction cup at hand and place it above the menu button on the display. With the pick, push the housing down and surround it once around the edge. Pull the suction cup up and flip up the display (no more than 90 degrees). Pay particular attention to the display contacts at the top of the smartphone. These must not break off or be overstretched.
- Remove the four screws from the sheet metal in the top right corner of the smartphone and then lift it off. Remove the contacts from the home button, display and front camera. Now simply lift off the display.
- Now remove the earpiece. To do this, start with the 3 screws that fix the cover. Carefully remove the sheet and earpiece using the tweezers.
- To remove the front camera and sensor cable set, gently bend the front camera to one side. In addition to guiding the front camera, release the two sensors. Fold the cable forward to expose the surrounding microphone. Carefully detach the glued cable from it.
- Now take a new front camera and a sensor cable set and insert it. To do this, first insert the surrounding microphone and then the sensors into the correct guide.
- Then slide the camera slightly to the side and put the earpiece back in the right place. Position the front camera on it, place the cover plate over it and fix it again with the correct screws.
- Now restore the moisture protection of the iPhone with a pre-made adhesive frame. Pay attention to the correct orientation of the glue in order to then mount the display correctly.
- Start with the contacts in the composition. To do this, press the home button, display and front camera in the correct position. Secure the contacts with the previously removed cover plate and then tighten the screws of the plate.
- Carefully fold down the display. First hook it on the top, then insert it in the right place on the rest of the case.
- Finally, screw the two pentalob screws to the side of the charging socket back in.
