iPhone 6s: replace earpiece - how it works
If your earpiece on the Apple iPhone 6s is defective, you can quickly replace it yourself. In this practical tip, we will show you in cooperation with iDoc exactly how you have to proceed.
iPhone 6S - Replace earpiece: tools and parts
- So that you can replace the earpiece yourself, you need the right tool and the new earpiece.
- All parts are available from iDoc. You also need a hot air dryer to detach the display.
- A normal hair dryer can also be used for this.
Step 1: turn off iPhone
- Before you start, you should turn off the iPhone completely for security reasons.
- To do this, press and hold the power button until the "Switch off" logo appears on the display.
- To turn the iPhone off completely, swipe it to the right and wait for the iPhone to turn off completely.
Step 2: Loosen the screws on the housing
- Now start by loosening the bottom screws next to the charging socket.
- To do this, use the pentalobe screwdriver from the tool set.
- Set the screws aside and mark them as housing screws so that you don't get mixed up later.
Step 3: remove the display
- Now turn the iPhone over so that the display is facing upwards and attach the suction cup approximately at the level of the home button.
- Now heat the sides of the display with a hair dryer and at the same time try to carefully lift the display.
- The hard plastic pick can be very helpful. Be extremely careful, however.
- If the display still cannot be detached, you must continue to heat the sides until you can detach the display carefully.
Step 4: remove the battery contact
- After you have carefully folded the display to the side, you can now remove the battery screws.
- You will need the Philips screwdriver again. Place the two screws separately so that you cannot mix them up.
- You can then remove the cover and carefully lift the connector with the spudger. Alternatively, you can also use your fingernails here.
Step 5: release the display contacts
- On the upper left side you will find another cover for the display contacts. Loosen these four screws with the Philips screwdriver.
- Put all the screws together except for the top one and then remove the cover.
- There are three plugs underneath, which you must disconnect in the following order Start with the connector on the right, followed by the top connector. Finally, remove the left connector. To do this, use the pointed side of the spudger.
Step 6: replace earpiece
- Now you can use the Philips screwdriver to loosen the three screws that hold the earpiece together. The two lower screws belong together.
- Remove the cover and the adhesive tape. Place this with the screws.
- The earpiece is located under the flat cable of the camera. Fold it slightly to the side to access the earpiece.
- Remove the old earpiece and insert the new one. Then you can put the cable back over the earpiece and attach the adhesive strip and the cover.
- Screw the cover back on with the screws so that the earpiece fits snugly.
Step 7: assemble iPhone
- After you have installed the new earpiece, you now have to reassemble the iPhone.
- Start by reconnecting the display contacts. The right cable is connected first, then the cable comes on top and finally the cable on the left. Then turn on the iPhone and check all functions.
- If the iPhone works correctly, you can now attach and screw on the cover.
- Next you need to connect the battery contacts to the logic board and screw the silver cover.
- Now the two screws on the lower side of the housing next to the charging socket must be screwed tight.
- Finally, carefully flip the display over until you hear it click into place. Press firmly near the home button so that the display is firmly seated.
