iPhone 6s: speaker defective - so replace it
If your speaker on the Apple iPhone 6S is defective, you can quickly change it yourself. In cooperation with iDoc, we show you in this practical tip exactly how you have to proceed.
iPhone 6S: Change speaker - preparation and tools
- To change the speaker on your iPhone 6S yourself, you need the right tool. You need special screwdrivers, a suction cup, a spatula, a pick, tweezers and a so-called spudger.
- Of course you also need a new speaker. You can get this and all tools from iDoc - Tool Set Basic & iPhone 6S loudspeaker
- You also need a hot air dryer. An ordinary hair dryer can also be used.
Step 1: turn off iPhone
- Press and hold the [Power] button for about three seconds.
- To switch the iPhone off completely, swipe the text "Switch off" from left to right.
- Wait for the iPhone to turn off completely before proceeding.
Step 2: remove housing screws
- Use the included pentalobe screwdriver for this step.
- Remove the two screws that are located right next to the charging socket.
- So that the screws are not lost or swapped, you should put them in a separate compartment.
Step 3: raise the display
- Turn the iPhone over so that it lies on the table with the display facing up.
- Then attach the suction cup at approximately the same height as the home button and heat the display from the side with the hot air dryer.
- Then try to carefully lift the glass. The hard plastic pick can help. This usually requires several attempts.
- Now you can carefully lift the display and fold it aside.
Step 4: remove the battery contact
- If you have folded the display aside, you should remove the connections to the battery for safety and to avoid a short circuit.
- Use the Philips screwdriver to loosen the two marked screws and place them separately so that you do not confuse them.
- Then lift the cover and unplug the connector with the spudger. Alternatively, you can try it with your fingernail.
Step 5: release the display contacts
- At the top left you will find a cover for the display contacts, which is fastened with four screws. Loosen them with the Philips screwdriver and put them all apart from the upper screw.
- Then you can fold down the cover. You can use tweezers for this.
- Here you will find three connectors that overlap. Use the spudger and first carefully loosen the right connector. Then carefully remove the upper connector and finally the left connector.
- With the pointed side of the spudger you can then remove the antenna cable and the flex cable on the upper right side.
Step 6: replace speakers
- There is a black sticker next to the Lightning cable. Loosen it and remove the screw underneath with the Philips screwdriver.
- You have to remove a total of five screws with the Philips screwdriver and sort them. The top two screws, the two on the right outside, and a last screw just above the Lightning connector.
- Carefully remove the antenna cable and remove the old speaker.
- Now you can insert the new speaker and attach the antenna cable with the metal ring to the speaker.
- Fix the speaker with the respective screws and stick the black sticker back on.
Step 7: reassemble iPhone
- Start by replacing the connector for the antenna and Lightning cable.
- Now attach the connectors for the display, being careful. As soon as you have attached all the plugs, switch on the iPhone and test all functions.
- You can then flip the cover over again and screw it tight.
- Now connect the battery contact to the logic board again and screw the silver cover.
- Finally, carefully fold the display down again until the edge clicks into place. Press firmly next to the home button so that the disc sits correctly. Now screw the two housing screws next to the Lightning connector again.
