iPhone 6s back: How to change the back cover

iPhone 6S: Switch tool to back cover
You need the right accessories to successfully repair the back cover of your iPhone 6S.
- You can get the necessary tools from iDoc.
- You will also need a hot air dryer or an ordinary hair dryer to heat the display.
- In the following, we will now show you how to proceed when replacing the back cover.
Step 1: Switch off the iPhone, loosen the first screws and lift the display
- Turn off iPhone first before you start working. For example, you can avoid short circuits.
- To switch off the iPhone, press and hold the [Power] switch for several seconds until you see the "Switch off" symbol on the display.
- Now take the pentalobe screwdriver at hand and use it to remove the two screws next to the charging socket.
- Place the screws in a marked compartment so that you do not mix them up later.
- Turn the iPhone on its back and take the suction cup at hand. You place this approximately at the height of the home button.
- Warm up the edge of the display with a hot air dryer and try to carefully lift the display with the suction cup.
- With the hard plastic pick you can try to lift the display from below.
- However, if the display cannot be detached or is difficult to detach, you must continue to heat the sides until you can lift it up completely. Then gently fold it aside.
Step 2: remove battery and display contacts
- Now it is a matter of removing the battery contacts. To do this, you must first remove two screws from the cover using the Philips screwdriver. Put them separately sb.
- Then remove the cover and use the spudger to gently lift the connector. Alternatively, you can try this with your fingernails.
- It continues with the release of the display contacts. You will find a silver cover on the top left. Remove the four screws with the Philips screwdriver.
- Put all the screws together except for the top screw and remove the cover.
- There are three different cables under the cover, which you have to disconnect as follows.
- First remove the cable on the right side, followed by the upper cable. Finally remove the cable on the left side.
- To do this, use the tip of the spudger and be extremely careful.
Step 3: remove the Taptic Engine & remove the battery
- For this you need the Philips screwdriver again. Remove the two screws.
- Then you can carefully remove the Taptic Engine with the tweezers.
- The battery is attached with two adhesive strips. Use the spatula to loosen them.
- Pull the adhesive strips slowly to the side. You should keep it as flat as possible.
- Once you have successfully removed the adhesive strips, you can now simply remove the battery.
Step 4: Loosen the Lightning connector and remove the speaker
- For this step you need the tip of the spudger again.
- Use this to remove the plug of the Lightning connector and the antenna from the logic board.
- First remove the black sticker on the speaker. Then loosen the screw with the Philips screwdriver.
- Then you have to remove another five screws with the Philips screwdriver. Put the two screws on the left side and the two screws on the right side together.
- Gently pull the antenna cable to one side and then remove the speaker.
Step 5: remove Lightning connector and iSight camera
- To do this, you have to loosen a total of eight screws with the Philips screwdriver.
- Again, you should place the different screws separately so that you don't mix them up.
- Then remove the small piece of plastic next to the audio jack and use the spudger to carefully detach the cable from the floor.
- Then loosen the headphone jack and the Lightning connector and both golden microphones so that you can carefully remove the ribbon cable.
- To release the camera, first remove the two screws of the cover with the Philips screwdriver and place them separately again.
- Then use the spudger to unplug the camera by lifting it up slightly.
- Now you can carefully remove the camera using the tweezers.
Step 6: Disconnect the volume connector & remove the WLAN antenna
- Before you can remove the volume connector, you must loosen the two screws with the Philips screwdriver.
- Then lift the cover slightly and detach the contact from the circuit board.
- In order to be able to take out the WLAN antenna, loosen the five screws with the Philips screwdriver and put all screws separately again.
- After that, you can easily remove the cover.
Step 7: remove the SIM card holder
- For this step you need the SIM tool or a paper clip.
- Push the small hole in the SIM card holder to remove it.
Step 8: remove logic board & remove antenna
- Before you can remove the logic board, you must first remove the six screws with the Philips screwdriver.
- Then you have to remove the small antenna cable.
- Now you can carefully remove the logic board by hand.
- Then use the tweezers to carefully remove the antenna that is attached to the back cover.
Step 9: Remove the flash cover and volume control cable
- Pick up the Philips screwdriver and use it to remove the screw.
- Then loosen and remove the cover.
- To remove the volume control cable, you must first remove the five screws with the Philips screwdriver and heat the cable first.
- Then you can carefully detach the cable with the spudger.
- If it doesn't come off completely, keep warming it until you can remove it completely.
Step 10: take over the fastening clips
- Loosen a total of six screws and apply them to the new back cover.
- You can also take over other small parts that are not yet available in the new back cover and attach them directly to the new one.
Step 11: assemble iPhone
- After you have attached the small parts and fastening clips in the new back cover, put the standby volume control cable back in and screw it down.
- Then replace the cover for the flash and screw it on.
- Now put the antenna back in its proper place and make sure that the cable is correctly in the guide.
- Take the logic board at hand and place it in its place. Connect the cable for the standby volume and for the antenna and screw the logic board with the appropriate screws.
- Then simply slide the SIM card holder into the side cover.
- Place the WLAN antenna in the original place and screw it down.
- Connect the volume connector to the board and screw it together. The same applies to the camera.
- You now have to insert the small piece of plastic over the microphone again and fix the Lightning Connector with its eight screws.
Step 12: finish iPhone
- Then connect the connector for the antenna and the Lightning connector again.
- Then insert the battery. Make sure that the contact of the battery matches the contact on the circuit board.
- Then put the Taptic Engine in place and screw it down.
- Now it's time to connect the display. First connect the right connector, followed by the upper connector. Finally, connect the connector on the left. Then turn on the iPhone and make sure that all functions work properly.
- If this is the case, attach the cover and fix it with the appropriate screws.
- Then connect the battery contact to the logic board and attach the cover.
- Finally, fold the display carefully and press it firmly at the home button so that it clicks into place.
