iPhone 7: Change battery - how it works
If the battery of your iPhone 7 only lasts a few hours or is otherwise damaged, you can change the component yourself. In this practical tip, we will show you how to do it.
iPhone 7: Discounted battery replacement through Apple
Apple has throttled the performance of some iPhone models as soon as the battery has fallen below a certain level. After a lot of fuss about this opaque tactic, Apple has now made an offer to the owners of the affected iPhones.
- Until December 31, 2018, you can have the battery of your iPhone 7 replaced by Apple for just 29 euros, regardless of the condition. The exchange at Apple usually costs 89 euros, at a specialist around 50 to 60 euros.
- In many cases, especially with the iPhone 7, the exchange is not worth it. However, if your battery still failed in 2018, Apple can make it easy to repair. To do this, however, you will need to take the iPhone to an Apple store or certified repair service. Submitting to Apple costs an additional 12 euros and takes several days.
- If there is no Apple Store nearby, you can simply change the battery yourself. The battery itself only costs around 20 euros, for another 10 euros you will receive the appropriate tools that you can keep for the next cell phone repair.

Step 1: Open iPhone 7 for battery replacement
- Turn off the iPhone 7 completely and remove both screws at the bottom of the charging socket.
- Take a hair dryer and warm the display to loosen the adhesive. The display should only be warm and not hot.
- Place the suction cup just above the home button and slide the triangular pick on the charging socket between the display and the housing.
- Run the pick around the case once. Once all the bonds have been removed, you can flip up the display to the right.
- Simply fold the display to the side, but make sure that the two connection cables are not overstretched.
Step 2: Expose battery from iPhone 7
Note: To make sure that each screw comes back into place later, you should make a small sketch.
- To the right of the battery is a metal cover. Loosen all four screws and remove the cover.
- A cable leads from the lower part of the battery to the said point. Use a plastic tool to carefully pry the connector away from the cable at this point.
- Next to it, pry out the two cables that lead to the display.
- In the top right corner of the iPhone 7 you will find an elongated sheet. Loosen both screws and remove the sheet.
- Pry up the connector for the display underneath and set the display aside.
- The Taptic Engine is located at the bottom left of the iPhone 7. The connections for this are hidden under a cover at the bottom left. To do this, loosen both screws and pry out the contact.
- The Taptic Engine is attached with three screws. Remove the screws and the Taptic Engine.
Step 3: change battery from iPhone 7
- At the bottom of the battery you will find the two ends of the adhesive strip. Take this in your hand and pull it out at a flat angle with light pressure (see picture).
- Take the new battery at hand and stick on the two adhesive strips. Make sure that the end of the adhesive strips is folded down again.
- Insert the battery and press it down with light pressure. Now you can simply reverse the previous steps.
- When closing the display, make sure that you first hook the top edge of the display and only then press the display onto the housing with a little pressure.
