With the right app, you can easily use your iPhone as an audio recorder. In this tutorial we will show you exactly how this works.
App and microphone: Use iPhone as an audio recorder - you should note that
With suitable accessories, your iPhone can also be used as an audio recorder. However, there are several things to keep in mind:
- First you need a suitable (clip-on) microphone. We have put together some good external microphones for the iPad and iPhone.
- Then you need a special app for recording, which is also tailored to the microphone.
- The app from the microphone manufacturer Rode is recommended. The paid app _blank | RØDE Rec is actually tailored to the manufacturer's microphones, but can also be used with other microphones without any problems.
- With this app you can make high quality recordings with 24 bit at 48 kHz. You can then cut the recording in the app, apply filters and export it as MP3.
- Practical: You can share the recording directly from the app or upload it to your FTP server.
App alternative "Hindenburg Field"
- The Hindenburg Field Journalist app is also interesting for radio journalists. This allows you to cut the recording directly or set markings.
- Here, too, you have the option of sharing the recording via FTP or Dropbox. Since the app contains all sorts of professional tools, the full version costs around 30 euros as much as software. The lite version is limited to one minute of recording time.
In the next article, we will show you how to record calls with the iPhone. This practical tip is based on RØDE Rec 2.9.36 and Hindenburg Field Recorder 1.50 on iOS 7.
