If you want to create or import an iPhone backup and you are shown that the backup file is damaged, there can be several reasons. We'll show you how to fix it.
Damaged iPhone backup: common cause
A corrupted iPhone backup is particularly noticeable when you try to combine different versions of iOS with incompatible iPhones. To fix the error, you need to delete the incompatible backups from iTunes.
- Before doing so, however, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. Also check that your connection cable works without problems.
Delete corrupt backup in iTunes
Even if you only have problems with an existing, damaged backup interfering with the smooth operation of your iPhone with iTunes, you can delete it. This will tidy up iTunes and make room for a fresh and working backup.
- To do this, connect your iPhone to your PC or Mac and start iTunes.
- Click on "Settings" under "Edit" and navigate to the "Devices" tab.
- Select the backup files that cause an error and remove them by clicking on "Delete backup". Then perform a new backup of your iPhone in iTunes.
Manually delete the damaged backup
If you don't see a backup in iTunes, you can help out manually and delete the backup folder manually.
- On Windows 10, go to "C \ Users \ Username \ AppData \ Roaming \ Apple Computer \ MobileSync \ Backup" and delete the folders using Windows Explorer.
