Activating Dark Mode on the iPhone has been very easy since iOS 13. But there is also a trick on older devices to set up a dark mode. We explain both ways.
iPhone: Activate dark mode - how it works under iOS 13
Since iOS 13, you can easily activate iPhone Dark Mode via the settings.
- Open the settings on the iPhone (see picture).
- Select "Display & Brightness".
- Here you can set the mode "light" or "dark". With "Dark" you activate the Dark Mode.
- You can also specify here whether Dark Mode should be activated automatically, for example every day at sunset.
Older iPhones and iOS versions: Activate Dark Mode - how it works
There is no native "dark mode" for iOS versions up to iOS 12 and therefore also older iPhones. However, a small function was added with iOS 11, which can be used to reverse the colors of the system apps. These then have a black background and white writing. Here's how to do it:
- Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone. Click General, then Accessibility, Display Adjustments, and Invert Colors.
- With "Classic Invert" you can now activate the classic color reversal, as you already know from previous iOS versions.
- However, the "Smart Invert" is new in iOS 11. The user can also reverse the colors on the display to help visually impaired people, but he does not apply the color reversal to pictures or other media. This gives Apple's system apps a new look.
