An absolute horror scenario for every iPhone owner: Suddenly your iPhone won't work anymore. There are many reasons for this. We'll show you a few steps that can help to turn your iPhone back on.
In case of deep discharge: start the iPhone in recovery mode
The simplest explanation for the fact that your cell phone is no longer working: It is deeply discharged. Therefore, hang your iPhone up for a while before trying to turn it on again. Then you should start the smartphone in recovery mode:
- Press the on / off switch and the home button for ten seconds. Then you have to release the on / off button and hold the home button pressed for ten more seconds.
- Connect your iPhone to iTunes, which should recognize the phone in recovery mode. Now you can try to restore it.
Switch iPhone on again with a reset and update
If the iPhone just hung up, you can turn it on again with a reset. The corresponding key combination then forces the start of the iOS operating system.
- Hold down the power button and the home button at the same time for about ten seconds and then wait for the Apple logo to appear. In most cases, your iPhone should function normally again after a somewhat longer startup process.
- Check for updates after your iPhone starts up. To do this, go to the "General" item on your iPhone and activate the "Software update" button. Alternatively, you can connect your iPhone to iTunes and download the latest software here.
- If your iPhone turns off again after the reset, you should carry out the reset described above again and restore your iPhone.
- To do this, connect your iPhone to iTunes and, after backing up your system, click on the "Restore iPhone ..." menu item under the iPhone overview. A new configuration of your iOS operating system can give your iPhone stability again.
- iPhone X and newer: If you have an iPhone without a home button, the reset works differently. Here, first press the volume up button and release it, then press the volume down button and release it again. Then press and hold the power button until the Apple logo appears on the display.
iPhone: Use recovery & warranty rights
If the iPhone can no longer be started with a reset, you probably have a more serious problem. Only Apple or other verified dealers can help here. Therefore, first of all check your rights under your guarantee.
- First, try to connect iPhone to iTunes again and restore iPhone. It may be possible to actually connect via iTunes. If this does not work, you still have the rights from the guarantee agreement.
- Check your purchase date to see if it has been more than 12 months since the purchase, as Apple offers a limited 12-month warranty. You can also do this on the Apple website by entering your serial number.
- If the warranty is still in effect, you should contact Apple by making an appointment at an Apple store near you or by calling phone support on 0800 6645 451.
- Otherwise, you still have the warranty rights against your dealer, because these are valid for a period of 24 months.
If nothing really helps: New iPhone via contract
If your iPhone is out of the warranty period, depending on the model, a repair can also be worthwhile.
- Take a look at the iDoc iPhone professionals. However, a repair is often very expensive, so you have to weigh it up: Is it still worth repairing or maybe it is better to sell the cell phone as a defect to a hobbyist.
- Defective iPhones also have a fair market value and are often searched for. You can use the money from the sale e.g. B. invest in a completely new iPhone with or without a contract.
- However, you can often repair minor defects yourself. In the video below we show you how to change the back of the iPhone in no time.
