iPhone: Recover Deleted Photos - Can You?
Suddenly it happened: you delete a photo on your iPhone - accidentally! In this practical tip, we explain how you can restore the deleted photos.
Backup via iCloud: Recover deleted photos on your iPhone using the cloud
If you have created an iCloud backup, you can restore deleted photos. To do this, go to the "Settings" on your iPhone.
- Tap on "iCloud" here and scroll down to "Storage & Backup".
- The existing backups are displayed under "Manage storage".
- If no backups were shown here or the slider for the respective backup in "Recordings" is not on the right, then you cannot restore your photos via iCloud.
- If there is a backup with the photos here, you can set up your device again and restore it from an iCloud backup under "Configure" during the process. An iCloud backup can only be restored using the iOS setup wizard.
Restore your deleted iPhone photos: import backup via iTunes
You can also use iTunes to create backups and restore them to retrieve your deleted photos. To do this, open iTunes on the computer with which you are synchronizing. Open the iTunes software on your computer before connecting your iPhone to the computer. Go to "Settings" via "iTunes" (on Windows via "Edit").
- Select the "Devices" tab. In the "Device backups" list you will see all the backups that have been created.
- Also deactivate the checkmark at "Prevent automatic synchronization". If you don't, your existing backup may be overwritten by a new backup as soon as you connect your iPhone to the computer. Confirm the change with "OK".
- Now connect your iPhone to the computer and click on the device shown in iTunes in the top right corner. You are then in the "Overview".
- Click here under "Backups" on "Restore backup" and confirm in the opened window with "Restore".
By the way: To restore your device via iTunes, you have to briefly deactivate "Find my iPhone" on your device. By the way, with the activated option you can locate a lost Apple device via the iCloud.
