iPhone: disable GPS
The Apple iPhone has a GPS receiver that also sucks on the battery. You should therefore deactivate it if you are not using the GPS function.
Instructions: Deactivate the GPS receiver of the iPhone
Thanks to GPS, your iPhone both determines your location and helps with route planning. However, using the GPS function consumes a lot of energy. So if you don't need local services, follow the instructions below to disable the GPS feature:
- On the home screen of your Apple iPhone, tap on the "Settings".
- In the settings, select "Privacy" and then "Location services".
- You will find the function of the same name under the "Location Services" category. Tap the switch to disable GPS.
- If you want to continue using certain "location based services", you can grant access to GPS location to these selected applications. To do this, tap on the respective app and select the "When using the app" option.
Deactivating the GPS function protects the battery power of your iPhone. However, there are other ways you can optimize your iPhone 5's battery life. In the practical tip "iPhone 5: Battery life too short - what to do?" we will explain what you have to do for this.
