iPhone: Repair the home button instead of exchanging it
The biggest weakness in Apple's iPhones is the home button. However, you can often repair a defective home button instead of carrying out an expensive and time-consuming replacement. We will help you and show you the individual steps.
Home button doesn't work anymore - that's why
- After a while, dust and dirt can accumulate between the contacts of the home button.
- This disrupts the contact and the home button only works if you press hard or no longer.
- Before swapping the home button, you should try cleaning the contacts.
- You don't have to open the iPhone to do this. A contact cleaner penetrates the gap around the home button.
Repair home button - you need it
- For cleaning, the company iFixTheButton offers a repair kit with a cleaning liquid and a pipette for around 35 euros.
- Instead, you can also use a simple contact cleaner, which you can find in the electronics store for under 10 euros.
- You also need a blunt object with which you can press the home button and a cloth to clean.
Repair the home button on the iPhone
Turn off your iPhone and then start cleaning:
- Put a drop of the cleaning liquid in the recess of the home button so that it is completely filled.
- Press the home button with a blunt object about ten times until the liquid has run into the gap.
- Now hold down the home button for a few minutes. Change the angle every now and then so that the liquid cleans the entire contact area.
- Wait ten minutes and turn your iPhone back on.
- If the home button still does not work, you can repeat the process after a day. If that doesn't help either, the home button must be replaced.
