If purchased apps are waiting on your iPhone or iPad, you cannot start or delete the programs. In this article, we reveal what you can do in such a case.
iPhone and iPad: Apps are waiting - that's the reason
If you download several apps at once from the App Store, your iPhone or iPad will queue the apps in a kind of queue. This means that only a small number of apps are downloaded and installed at a time. All other upcoming downloads are waiting.
- It can also happen that the app icon has not even been loaded, so you will only find a gray box on your home screen.
- This status usually disappears after a few minutes, namely when the other apps are completely installed. So wait a while before taking any further action.
- If your apps are on "Load" even though no other programs are being updated or installed in the background, you have to address the problem in a different way:
iPhone and iPad: get waiting apps up and running
Unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all solution to this problem. Therefore, carry out the following steps in sequence and test each time whether the app works again.
- First check whether there is a working internet connection. If you have any problems, we will help you in a special article. If you are connected to the internet, tap the icon of the app concerned a few times. In many cases, the download then begins.
- If this does not help, carry out a soft reset of your iOS device. To do this, press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears. After the restart, the app should either be installed or completely disappeared from the home screen.
- It often helps to cancel the download via the app store. To do this, open the store and navigate to the app concerned. Then tap the circle icon with the square in the middle to cancel the installation. The app should now be gone. You can then start the download or update again.
- If the wait message persists, use the free iExplorer. Install the tool on your PC and connect your iPhone or iPad to the computer with a USB cable. Then navigate to the "Media / Downloads" entry on the left screen and delete all the folders and files contained therein. Then restart your iDevice if the app has disappeared.
- In the unlikely event that the last route doesn't help, there is still a hard reset. All data and apps are deleted from your iPhone and iPad so that the error is eliminated in any case.
