iPhone / iPad: Deactivate iMessage - how it works
If you don't want to use Apple's messaging service iMessage, you can deactivate it. We show you how this works directly on the iPhone, iPod and iPad.
Disable iMessage on iOS
iMessage is supposed to replace the SMS on the iPhone. If you send a message to another iPhone, iPod or iPad owner, they will not receive your message as an SMS, but as iMessage over the Internet. The advantage: you do not incur any SMS costs; the disadvantage: the message can only be received over the Internet. If you prefer to stay with the classic short message, you can deactivate iMessage.
- To do this, open the Settings app on your iDevice.
- Here you decide on the entry "News".
- Deactivate the "iMessage" entry there and then close the settings.
- From now on, all messages will be sent and received as SMS again.
