Change root password from iPhone / iPad
So that not every amateur hacker in an open WLAN network can access your iPhone and you are protected against viruses, you should change the root password. There are several ways to change your password, but you can follow the instructions below without much help:
- Open Cydia on your iPhone or iPad and search for the "Mobile Terminal" application.
- Once you have found it, tap the "Install" button in the top right corner. Then start the application.
- You will now see a black console. First enter "su" and confirm with the [Enter] key (Return).
- You will then be asked for the root password. By default this is "Alpine". Confirm again with "Return".
- So that you can now change the password, enter "passwd" and confirm again with "Return".
- Now type in the new password. Make a note of it or write it down additionally. Confirm again with "Return" the password will be changed. You are now better protected against external attacks.
