If your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch cannot be switched off, it is usually only a temporary error. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Switch off iPhone / iPad completely - how it works
- Once the system has hung up, press and hold the power button on the device for several seconds. Usually, however, this does not lead to success.
- Instead, hold down the power and home button simultaneously for a few seconds. A soft reset is then carried out and your iPhone restarts.
- If that doesn't help either, wait a moment. Usually the iPhone or iPad recognizes the problem and switches itself off after a few minutes.
iPhone does not go out - wait or reset?
- If there is a slightly larger problem, only waiting or a reset will help. While waiting is usually the more sensible solution, it can take hours or days with a high battery charge.
- Never unscrew your iPhone to remove the battery. This can damage the battery as well as the rest of the hardware.
iPhone / iPad cannot be switched off - hard reset
The last option is a hard reset. This will fix almost all problems. Before doing so, however, you should back up your data, as all files will be deleted from your device.
Hard reset - how it works
- Connect your device to the computer with a USB cable and start iTunes.
- If the iPhone or iPad is not recognized, try starting it in DFU mode.
- Select your device in the top left corner and click the "Restore iPhone" button on the right.
- If your device was reset successfully, you can restore it from a previous backup.
