Don't panic if your iPhone or iPad suddenly doesn't start: There are ways to quickly bring the Apple device back to life.
iPhone or iPod no longer starts - this may be the reason
First of all, you should narrow down the problem. Depending on the cause, there are different approaches:
- Has the iPhone or iPad got wet? Here's what you should do if your iPhone gets water damaged. Under no circumstances should you try to switch the device on or recharge it, otherwise it could lead to a short circuit. It is best to dry it near a heater and then go to a repair service or Apple shop.
- Is the battery just empty? Try to see if charging helps reactivate the iDevice. Wait about 10 minutes and then restart the iPhone / iPad.
- Sometimes it even helps to wait until the battery is empty. If you then charge your device, it may restart as usual.
- If only one app is stuck, press and hold the home button longer. Then your iPad or iPhone should return to the home screen. Sometimes this also causes a reboot, and after the restart everything is fine again.
- If it is not due to the battery, a reset can help. Follow the steps described here to reset your iPad with a hard or soft reset. The hard reset should always be the very last step, because you can use it to reset the device to the original delivery state: All apps, games, photos and settings will be lost.
- Connect your iPhone or iPad to iTunes and the Apple software recognizes your device, only the operating system is damaged. A hard reset with iTunes or the manual reinstallation of iOS helps here. The advantage is that you may then be able to replay your deleted data on your iPhone or iPad.
Do you have a jailbreak installed? This can also be a reason for the iPhone not starting. Use these steps to try to uninstall the jailbreak.
