iPhone with dual SIM - how it works
Until recently, there were no iPhones with dual SIM. But there are now two iPhones that are equipped with dual SIM as standard. You can also use other iPhones with two SIM cards with one trick.
iPhones with dual SIM: iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max
The iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max both have Dual SIM as a combination of a physical nano-SIM and an eSIM ("e" stands for embedded, "embedded"). It is therefore permanently installed in the device and does not have to be broken out of a plastic chip and inserted into the device like a normal SIM card.
- The eSIM must be supported by the mobile phone provider and can only be used after an update of the iPhone to iOS 12.1 (or newer).
- Telekom and Vodafone have already announced that they want to support eSIM. O2 also wants to follow suit later.
- Discount providers do not yet have any tariffs that support eSIM.
iPhone with dual SIM: How to upgrade your iPhone
- Up to the iPhone XS, iPhones only had one SIM card slot, so you really can't use a second SIM card.
- However, there are dual SIM adapters for the iPhone, which you can also use a second SIM card with.
- Complete instructions and further information can be found in our dual SIM test for the iPhone 4.
