iPhone: Mobile data network could not be activated
The message "Mobile data network could not be activated" often appears on the iPhone after an update of the operating system or the first time it is used. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
"Mobile data network could not be activated" - Why?
For example, if you see the message "Mobile data network could not be activated" when you visit a website, your iPhone cannot access the Internet. The reason for this is an error in the settings. You may have caused this, but your iPhone itself can also be to blame.
Configure the mobile data network correctly
In order to use the mobile data network, you often have to set the correct access data. These vary from provider to provider and are not always preconfigured correctly.
- iOS 7: Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone and select the menu item "Mobile network" above. Under "Mobile data network" you can now make the required settings.
- iOS 6 and older: Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone and select the "General" menu item. Under "Mobile network" you will find the option "Mobile data network".
- The appropriate values must now be entered in the "APN", "User name" and "Password" columns so that you can use the mobile network. You can find this information in the next paragraph
Access data of the mobile network provider
Each mobile operator assigns different data for APN, user name and password. Due to the large number of providers, we cannot list all access data here. If you do not find what you are looking for, google the name of your mobile operator with the addition "Mobile data".
- Vodafone: APN: web.vodafone.de, username and password remain empty
- T-Mobile (also providers such as Congstar and Klarmobil) APN: internet.t-mobile or APN: internet.t-d1.de, user name: TMobile, password: tm
- E-Plus (also providers such as Simyo, Base, Blau, Aldi Talk): APN: internet.eplus.de, user name: eplus, password: internet
- O2: APN: Internet, user name and password remain empty
Last help: delete network settings
If you still haven't solved the problem, there are two last options: reset network settings or clear memory.
- Open the "Settings" app and navigate to the "Network settings" option via the "General" and "Reset" menu items. Confirm your decision with "Reset" and set up the mobile network again as described above.
- You can perform a cold start to empty the working memory. To do this, press and hold the home button and the on / off switch until the device is completely switched off. Then restart your iPhone.
