As of iOS 9.3, you can encrypt your notes on iPhone with a password or by touch ID. This enables you to protect your data against unauthorized access. We'll show you how to set this up.
Set up note encryption via Touch-ID
Before you can encrypt your notes with a password or via Touch ID, you first have to activate the new feature:
- Open the "Settings" app and select the "Notes" category below.
- Here, tap on the "Password" item and enter a desired password.
- Enable the "Use Touch ID" option below and tap "Done" in the top right.

- Open the "Notes" app and select any note or create a new one.
- If you tap the share button at the top right next to "Done", a menu opens.
- Select the "Note protected" option below to lock the content.
- Open the note, just tap on "Show note" in the middle.
- Now either put your finger on the home button to use Touch-ID or enter your password.
