A success story since the first iPhone appeared in 2007: We have listed all models of the smartphone in an ordered order - and meanwhile some models have already come together here.
1. iPhone
The triumphal march of mobile apps began with the first iPhone
- Apple launched the first iPhone on November 9, 2007, heralding the smartphone era.
- A start was made with a 3.5 inch screen size and a resolution of 480 × 320 pixels.
2. iPhone 3G
- Less than a year later, on July 11, 2008, the first successor model appeared.
- There is actually no difference to the predecessor.
3. iPhone 3GS
- The iPhone 3GS followed on June 19, 2009.
- The size remained unchanged, but a newer processor was installed with the Samsung S5L8920.
- The camera has also been improved: Instead of 2 megapixel resolution, the iPhone 3GS now managed 3.1 megapixels.
- The internet connection was also better with the new model.
4. iPhone 4
- With the iPhone 4, which was launched on June 24, 2010, not only did the design change - an Apple A4 processor was installed for the first time instead of a Samsung S5L8920.
- The 5 megapixel camera was a further development as was the screen resolution of 960 × 640 pixels.
5. iPhone 4s
- A variant of the iPhone 4 was released on October 14, 2011.
- With the Apple A5 processor, the smartphone was faster and the camera had an 8 megapixel resolution.
6. iPhone 5
- The next generation of iPhone saw the light on the German market on September 21, 2012.
- The iPhone 5 with a 4-inch display was larger than its predecessor, but still lighter.
- The RAM memory was doubled to 1 GB compared to previous models and the Apple A6 processor brought more performance.
7. iPhone 5c
- On September 20, 2013, Apple released its iPhone 5c.
- The differences to the iPhone 5 are actually marginal: the talk time is a bit longer with the new model, as is the standby time.
- Only the color palette for the new iPhone was really an innovation: the back of the iPhone 5c became colorful and was available in the colors white, pink, yellow, blue and green.
8. iPhone 5s
- At the same time as the iPhone 5c, the iPhone 5s was also offered for sale.
- While the iPhone 5c was only offered with memory sizes of 16 and 32 GB, the iPhone 5s had memory sizes of 16, 32 and 64 GB.
- In addition to the colors silver, gray, the iPhone 5s was now also available in gold and was somewhat lighter than the previous variant.
- The main difference, however, was the processor. For the first time, the iPhone 5S had two chips: the main chip A7 with 64-bit architecture and the "M7 motion coprocessor".
9. iPhone 6/6 Plus
- September 19, 2014 marked another milestone in the iPhone series: the iPhone 6 and its big brother iPhone 6 plus conquered the market.
- With its 4.7 inches, the iPhone 6 was already larger than the 5 series. With the 5.5-inch display of the iPhone 6 plus, however, Apple set new standards in the smartphone market.
- Both models were offered with a storage capacity of up to 128 GB.
10. iPhone 6s / 6s Plus
- The successor was not long in coming: September 25, 2015 was the launch date for the iPhone 6s and the large version iPhone 6s plus.
- A new processor generation, a doubling of the RAM memory to 2 GB and a 12 megapixel camera were the innovations of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s plus.
11. iPhone SE
- The iPhone SE was more of an intermediate model, released on March 24, 2016.
- It was a bit smaller, but also cheaper than the iPhone 6s.
- Savings were made on the front camera, which performed significantly worse, which was a disadvantage for FaceTime users.
IPhone 7/7 Plus
- The two iPhone 7 variants of the series were launched on September 16, 2016.
- Visually nothing has changed from the 6 series, but the hardware shows differences. The iPhone 7 can be operated at the touch of a finger thanks to the 3D touch.
- The powerful A10 Fusion Chip makes the iPhone 7 twice as fast as its predecessor.
- The iPhone 7 Plus was also equipped with a dual camera.
13. iPhone 8 / iPhone 8 Plus / iPhone X
As of September 22, 2017, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were available for purchase. The iPhone X was first presented to the public by Apple in the same event, but was only available from November 3, 2017.
- Here too, the design has not changed much compared to the predecessor.
- However, the back of the iPhone 8 is made of glass, so that the smartphone can also be charged using Qi chargers
- The power required for the mobile phone is provided in both iPhone 8 variants by an A11 Bionic SoC processor - which is also installed in the iPhone X.
- The iPhone X can be unlocked with your own face via Face ID.
14. iPhone XR / iPhone XS / iPhone XS Max
At the Apple Keynote on September 12, 2018, three new iPhone models were presented: the iPhone XR, the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max.
- All three devices are very similar in design to the iPhone X. In addition, they all have the same Apple A12 Bionic processor.
- The smartphones differ primarily in the display: While a 6.1-inch LC display is used for the XR, Apple uses OLED screens for its XS devices, while the XS 5.8 inches and the XS Max 6, 5 inches tall.
- The XS devices also support dual SIM, in the form of a physical nano SIM and an eSIM.
