Expand iPhone storage: these are the options
Annoyingly, the iPhone's memory cannot be easily expanded. For this reason, you need to plan ahead with the purchase of how much storage you are likely to need. If you later find out that you have calculated your storage requirements, you can only use tricks to store more data with your iPhone than the internal memory allows. We show you how to do it.
Expand iPhone storage: External storage media
With these tricks you can put more data on your iPhone, even if the storage space is full:
- If you need a lot of storage space for music, videos or photos, a mobile WLAN hard drive is worthwhile. You get one terabyte of storage for about 90 euros.
- A slightly cheaper solution, with which you relieve the iPhone's memory of pictures and videos, is a Wireless Mirco SD card reader. The card reader costs around 35 euros. You then have the option of storing data on a micro SD card.
- The most attractive way to expand the memory of the smartphone is a corresponding protective cover for the iPhone, which provides integrated storage space. While this solution is the most elegant, it is also the most expensive. Depending on the storage capacity, the fun will cost you between around 160 and 200 euros. In addition to the additional memory, you also get an increased battery capacity - your iPhone then runs about twice as long.
- To connect the aforementioned devices to your iPhone, you usually need an Apple Lightning connection cable.
- As a last resort, you still have to move your data to a cloud. You can get free storage space from Google or Dropbox, for example.
iOS11 - so you get additional additional memory
Regardless of whether your iPhone has 32 or 128 gigabytes of memory, the space is somehow never enough and is often full at lightning speed. With the new iOS 11, the physical memory does not grow infinitely as if by magic, but with some new, practical features, you save a lot of space on your iPhone.
- The newly revised detailed display of the storage space allocation is helpful. Now you can see at a glance how much storage space is used and quickly identify particularly resource-hungry apps, videos or photos.
- Over time, some apps accumulate, from which one may not really want to separate, but the programs are basically not used either. In iOS 11, you can conveniently let the operating system search for such apps yourself and remove them. The data is retained and should you eventually need one or the other app, download it quickly from the Apple Store.
- Photos and videos are known to be extremely memory intensive. With the new iOS 11, iMessage is connected to the iCloud in real-time synchronization so that you can always access your videos and photos immediately. This alone saves you an enormous amount of storage space on your iPhone without you having to accept losses.
- In addition, iOS11 offers various support for organizing your pictures and videos as well as iMessage conversations. For example, you can delete the files according to a predefined schedule or display deletion suggestions.
