iPhone: Set up lock code - how it works
If you want to protect your iPhone against unauthorized access, you can set up a lock code at any time or use your fingerprint to protect the device. We present you with both options.
Set lock code on iPhone - Here's how
The latest iPhone models have a fingerprint sensor for protection. From the iPhone 5S, you can not only use a code, but also your fingerprint to lock it. You will find the appropriate instructions in the next paragraph. Proceed as follows for older models:
- Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
- Scroll down a little and select the category "Code" or "Touch ID & Code".
- Tap the "Activate Code" option at the top and enter the four-digit code.
- If you confirm the code again, it will then be set up.
- Further settings for the lock can be found below. Among other things, all data can be deleted after ten incorrect entries.
iPhone: Set up touch ID and lock code
You also need a lock code to activate Touch ID. If your fingerprint is unreadable, you still have the code for security. If you have followed the instructions above, you can continue here:
- In the "Settings", select the "Touch ID & Code" category again and enter your code.
- Start the setup with the "Add fingerprint" button. Now hold the iPhone in the position you normally hold it when you unlock it.
- Place your finger on the home button and wait for the device to vibrate. Lift your finger briefly and put it back in a minimally changed position.
- Repeat this step until the fingerprint has been completely captured. Then a second scan is performed, where you can use an alternative posture.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to save more than five fingers using Touch ID.
