iPhone: Establish an SSH connection - so it'll work
If you want to establish an SSH connection to your iPhone, all you need is the right software. We'll show you how it's done.
iPhone: Preparing to establish an SSH connection
Via an SSH connection, you can directly access and transfer data from the iPhone to the computer. This also works with data that is usually not visible.
- To establish an SSH connection between the computer and iPhone, the iPhone must have a jailbreak.
- If you have installed a jailbreak, open the Cydia app and download the "openSSH" application there.
- You need the free software WinSCP on your computer. This is also available in a portable version, so you do not have to install the program.
- To access the iPhone, you need its IP address. Open the "Settings" app and open the "WLAN" category. If you tap the info symbol to the right of your WiFi network, your IP address will appear there (see picture).
iPhone: Establish SSH connection
- Start the WiFi connection on your iPhone, if it has not already been done. Wait about a minute after activation.
- Start WinSCP and enter the IP address of the iPhone under "Computer name", the user "root" under "User name", and the standard password "alpine" under "Password".
- Select "SFTP" as the protocol below and activate the "Allow SCP recourse" option.
- Click on the "Save" button and then on "Login". It can take an entire minute for the first connection to reach the iPhone.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to increase the volume of your iPhone.
