iPhone: Activate SSL encryption
On your iPhone, you can activate SSL encryption for mail accounts so that important emails are protected. You can find out how to set this in this practical tip.
iPhone: Activate SSL encryption for accounts from the selection list
You can quickly set up an email account on your iPhone. If you have an Exchange mail, iCloud mail account or one at Yahoo !, Google, Outlook.com or AOL, the easiest way to set it up: the settings are loaded automatically.
- Open Settings and then "Mail, Contacts, Calendar".
- Select "Add Account" and your provider. Enter your name, email address and password.
- The account will then be created. SSL encryption is automatically activated for the accounts mentioned.
Set up SSL encryption for other email accounts on iPhone
If you have a mail account that does not appear in the list (e.g. T-Online or GMX), you have to make the settings manually:
- Open "Settings"> "Mail, Contacts, Calendar". Select "Add Account" and then "Other".
- Enter your name, email address and password.
- Make sure that your email account is set as "IMAP". This is the only way that SSL encryption works. Attention: Not every provider offers IMAP for free. For some providers, the service is chargeable. Find out in advance whether the service is activated for you.
- To activate SSL encryption, click on the mailbox you just set up in the settings and select "Advanced".
- Here you can see the "Use SSL" switch, which you only have to flip.
