If your iPhone keeps crashing, there can be several reasons. We will show you what this can be and how you can get the problem under control.
iPhone crashes: processor overloaded
- The most common cause of an iPhone crash is an overloaded or overheated processor. This condition can sometimes occur fairly quickly and unexpectedly.
- If the processor works under high load, it gets warmer and overheated in the worst case. To prevent this, the iPhone switches itself off, freezes or crashes.
- If the iPhone is a bit older, the chance of an already damaged processor is not so small. After a while, even the simplest games can rev the processor so that it gets too warm.
- But this can also happen on warm days, especially if the iPhone has been in the sun a little longer. If the smartphone is already strongly heated by the sun in summer, it does not require a large workload to make the processor too hot.
- We explain how you should act on an overheated smartphone.
iPhone crashes: app and iOS updates
- Faulty apps are virtually non-existent in the AppStore. Every application is checked for functionality beforehand. If a new iOS version comes out, it can lead to crashes and app problems.
- This is usually the cause of the crash. In contrast, only an update helps, which often has to be waited for days or weeks. Install all app updates and iOS updates as soon as available.
- If the crashes only occur in relation to a specific app, you should avoid the application if possible. Only an update will solve the problem.
IOS 11.1 issues
When installing update 11.1, a bug occurs that causes some iPhones to crash again and again.
- Not all Apple smartphones are affected. The error affects iPhones on which third-party apps are set up.
- To fix the problem, Apple released Update 11.2, which you can use to permanently prevent the bug.
- Note: If you are temporarily unable to install Update 11.2 to fix this problem, there is a way to work around the bug. To do this, you need to disable all app notifications. To do this, go to "Settings / Notifications" on your iPhone and select an app there. With this you have to switch off the notification. You have to set this individually for all apps.
Reset iPhone: Fix crash problems
In contrast to an Android smartphone, you can hardly cause the crashes on the iPhone yourself. Viruses and deeper interventions in the system are not possible here.
- The only possible help is to reset the iPhone to factory settings. All data and settings on the iPhone are deleted. In many cases this solves the problem. If that doesn't help either, you should consider an Apple repair.
- Before resetting your iPhone, you should do a backup via iTunes or iCloud. To prevent your iPhone from crashing during a reset, you should reset it in DFU mode. There is still a residual risk.
