Creating a stop motion video with your iPhone is easier than you might think. This practical tip shows you what you need and how to do it.
iOS: Create stop motion video with the iPhone - so it'll work
- Download the Stop Motion Studio app for iPhone and iPad to your iOS device and start the application.
- Click the plus sign to create a new stop motion movie. The camera will now start automatically.
- Position the iPhone so that the scene is always in view. It is best to use a mobile phone tripod.
- Now you can take one or more pictures with the shutter button. Video recording becomes more convenient if you use the timer. To do this, tap the small time symbol and set the timer to 5 seconds, for example. Then activate the timer using the slider to the left of the time symbol.
- Now you can move the characters in the scene step by step and the app takes a photo of them every five seconds. So you don't have to do anything on the iPhone itself.
- The individual images are displayed in the timline below the camera section.
- When the film or scene is finished, switch off the timer with the slider.
- When your film is finished, tap the little plus sign. You can find it under the camera image at the bottom left.
- The film is now displayed on the app's home screen. Now you can save the video on your iPhone using the Share button with the option "Share to Camera Roll". Before the film is saved, you must select the desired resolution.
- You can then transfer the video to your computer, for example for the final video editing.
Stop Motion Studio for iOS: Further setting options
- The app offers numerous other options. You can switch the auto focus on or off, show the grid or adjust the white balance.
- The camera icon with the down arrow takes you to the green screen option if you want to insert a different background later. However, this option is blocked in the free version.
- You can set the film to music using the microphone symbol. To do this, go to the first picture in the timeline and tap the microphone. Then you can start the sound recording.
- You will also see a gear icon. You can use this to make certain settings for the video. Here you can specify whether only the last twelve frames should be played or whether the video should run as a loop. In addition, you can play the film at half speed or with a slider at your desired speed.
