Turn off the iPhone flashlight - how it works
The flashlight function on the iPhone is extremely practical if you are looking for the keyhole in the dark, for example. The flashlight can be switched off as it is switched on. But there is another way. We'll show you how.
Switch the flashlight on and off on the iPhone
- Switch on: Swipe the screen on the lock screen, home screen or in any app from below and tap the flashlight icon (see picture).
- Switching off: Switching off works just like switching on by tapping the flashlight symbol.
- You can also turn off the iPhone camera by gently swiping the screen from the right on the lock screen without opening the camera.
iPhone: Use a flashlight with a 3D touch
Under iOS 10 with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7, you can also use the flashlight with 3D touch:
- Open the control center by swiping from the bottom of the screen and firmly tapping the flashlight icon.
- A menu opens that offers three different brightness levels.
- You can switch off the flashlight as described above.
Surf tip: The big wirecutter flashlight test
If you need light for longer, you should use a real flashlight. Because the flashlight function lets the cell phone's battery run down particularly quickly.
- Especially if you need a particularly powerful flashlight, you should inform yourself thoroughly before buying.
- Our CHIP partner Wirecutter has thoroughly tested 23 flashlights. In the detailed test report you can read which model did the best. You will also get a lot more information about the test procedure and what you should pay attention to when buying.
