Exchange iPhone - how it works
If you find that your Apple iPhone has defects after purchasing it, you can exchange it for free. In this practical tip, we show you what you should consider.
Exchange iPhone: make an appointment with Apple Store
If, after purchasing your Apple iPhone, you find that it has defects without your intervention, you can exchange it for free in the Apple Store within the warranty period. After a fall or water damage, you can exchange it for a fee for a new or a so-called "refurbished" model.
- Check the Apple Store website for the closest Apple Store. Write down the address and phone number.
- Call Apple Store support and say you would like to exchange your Apple iPhone.
- Alternatively, you can inform support via the contact form on the website or the official "Apple Store" app and reserve an appointment. A call is usually the fastest.
Exchange iPhone in the Apple Store
For your appointment in the Apple Store, take your iPhone with you, including packaging and invoice. Before doing this, you should set up your iPhone again by backing up your data and then resetting the iPhone. You can also find detailed instructions on how to backup your iPhone in the video below.
- Appear in the Apple Store at the agreed time and find an employee with a blue shirt and the Apple logo.
- The Apple Store representative will take care of your concerns. Tell them your problem. Also explain to him why you want to exchange your iPhone and how the damage was caused.
- Depending on the defect and the warranty period, the employee will make you an offer. Either he exchanges your iPhone for a new and identical iPhone within the warranty period free of charge or he offers you another iPhone for purchase.
- With a paid exchange, you can buy a new iPhone at a reduced price or get a so-called "refurbished" model at a reasonable price. You can find out what a refurbished iPhone is in another practical tip.
- If you have successfully exchanged the iPhone, your personal data on the old iPhone will of course be deleted. In return, you will receive a new iPhone with a new IMEI number.
iPhone: create backup - how it works
Exchange iPhone in-store or over the Internet
If there is no Apple store near you, you can have your iPhone exchanged at the electronics store or mobile phone store where you bought the device. If you bought it on the internet, you must contact the seller and show that you are not responsible for the defect.
- Also take into account that you should create a backup beforehand and reset your smartphone to the factory settings.
- Find the contact details of the store or provider and call them there. If the warranty applies, the provider must replace your iPhone.
