As of iOS 8, Apple allows third-party keyboards on the iPhone. Often you have to allow full access to use it. Apple warns, however, that the typed can then be transferred to the provider.
Why should you allow full access to the iPhone keyboard?
- Third-party keyboards can be downloaded from the App Store.
- If you don't like the Apple keyboard or if you want to add the Swype function, you can use third-party keyboards.
- By default, these run in a safe mode, Apple prevents access to network connections.
- However, many providers require full access in order to be able to activate all functions of the keyboard.
- This includes, for example, the detection of common typing errors or intelligent word suggestions.
- Apple warns against allowing full access. This is to prevent the typed from being transferred to the keyboard provider and the user being spied on in this way.
- In addition, the keyboard app is theoretically able to read data from other apps or the location and transmit it to the developer's server.
- You should therefore only allow full access for apps whose manufacturers you trust.
