You can now use your iPhone to make Wi-Fi calls in areas with poor reception. You have to activate the function - and so far it has only been supported by Deutsche Telekom. From now on, O2 and Vodafone users can also enjoy WLAN telephony.
Wifi calling: Use WiFi calls on the iPhone
With Wifi-Calling you can also make calls over a WiFi connection without or with poor cellular network.
- To use WiFi calls, you need an iPhone 5c or later with iOS 10.1. We'll show you how to update your iPhone manually.
- The function has been available to Telekom customers since iOS 10.
- You may have to obtain updated network operator settings in order to use the function.
- Depending on the provider, you have to book the contract option. At Vodafone, for example, that costs three euros a month.
Enable WiFi calls on iPhone
If you have fulfilled all the requirements, you can activate WLAN calls in the settings:
- Open the settings, scroll to "Phone" and tap on it.
- Here you can activate "WLAN calls".
- If you are connected to a WLAN network, the "WLAN Call" function is displayed in the status bar.
