iPhone X: close apps
The new iPhone X no longer has a home button, which is why some things now work differently. We show you how to close apps from now on.
iPhone X: How to close apps
An iPhone remains an iPhone - at least for some functions. On the iPhone X, however, the home button is no longer available. There is no need to press the Home button twice. The 5.8 inch display now fills the entire front.
- Instead there is a gesture: if you want to close an application and return to the main menu, simply swipe your finger up from the bottom of the screen. As a little help for this gesture, you will see a thin, black bar at the bottom. This virtually replaces the home button.
- To see all open apps side by side as usual, swipe up from the bottom of the screen - but not to the top of the screen. Instead, stop the gesture around the middle of the screen. You will need some practice to make this gesture at first. Tip: Swipe up slowly until the app overview appears.
- Now you can close apps as usual by swiping them upwards. However, this gesture is also not as easy to perform as with the previous models.
- That's why we show you an alternative to closing the apps from the app overview: Tap and hold the top app on the stack until the small, red minus symbol appears in the preview at the top left. Now you can close the apps individually by tapping this minus sign.
Surf tip: iPhone X cell phone cases in the wirecutter test
So that you have something of your iPhone X for a long time, you should protect it with a case, a flip case or the like. However, the selection of protective covers is large and the price is not always the best indicator of quality.
- Our CHIP partner Wirecutter tested 70 cases for the iPhone X. In the detailed test report you can read which model did the best and which sleeves are also recommended.
- The test also specifically addresses different types of sleeves. There are models that offer particularly good fall protection and those that have an integrated wallet.
The name of the new flagship also stands out from the previous series designation. We will explain why the iPhone X is called as it is called in the next practical tip.
